Section 20 begins with 3.6 miles of walking along a paved road (NC Hwy 28) on the way to the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. (If you're hiking south to north.) At Twenty Mile Ranger Station, the BMT turns into the park and follows a National Park Road for a ways before it finally turns back into a trail.
